Burgess Law offers alternatives to the traditional law firm approach to billing for legal work. Simply put, Burgess Law choses to focus on client service over getting paid for every 6 minute block of time.
To help small and new businesses manage costs:
We do not charge for initial client consultations.
We offer the option of set fees for straightforward work.
For more complicated work, where a client wants cost certainty, we will talk to the client about the file, give a quote and set a had cap on our fees so that they cannot exceed our quote. It's all in the quote.
For some clients, we offer a set monthly retainer for our services, which allows clients to have a lawyer on call for a low monthly fee, giving them access to legal advice without the worry of being surprised by a high legal bill at the end of the month.
For other clients we offer a monthly fee for a set number of hours of legal work.
We also offer special packages for start-ups where we bundle services to save start-ups money, and we can break up our invoices over several months to help start-ups manage their initial cash flow.
We strive to offer clients flexibility in getting them access to legal work in a way that makes sense for their business. As we move forward, we will look at introducing other billing models.
Due to our business model and the fact that we intentionally keep our costs low, we can afford to offer clients excellent value for their money while maintaining a high standard of service.

We also are willing to leverage the latest technology to communicate with clients. We can meet for a coffe or we can discuss your file on Facetime, Skype, Google Hangout, and several apps that will replace them.
Seeking and receiving legal advice should not be stressful or inconvenient. Businesses and entrepreneurs should feel comfortable contacting lawyers on terms that make the client feel comfortable. Law practices often lag behind other businesses that are willing to innovate. We aim to counter that trend.
